Don't you hate it when your coffee goes cold before you have time to drink it? The next time this happens, instead of grumbling, perhaps you should congratulate yourself on conducting an experiment in thermodynamics that has implications for the origin of the universe.

The second law of thermodynamics says that, in the absence of an outside interference, the energy inside a system will tend towards its most probable distribution. So, the heat from the coffee will dissipate and will eventually be the same temperature as its surroundings, a condition known as "thermal equilibrium".

But the universe is a very non-equilibrium place. The stars are very hot but elsewhere it's very cold and, just like our cup of coffee, as we go further back in time we'd expect a universe further from equilibrium and thus more structured. So cold cups of coffee are bad news for atheism because they point to a highly organized universe with a definitive beginning, creation.

📺 Michio Kaku: What's the Fate of the Universe? It's in the Dark Matter

Why should you bother to wake up tomorrow knowing that we're all going to die billions and billions of years from now when the universe turns to absolute zero, when the stars blink out, when we have nothing but neutron stars and black holes? Dr. Kaku says that billions of years from now we may be able to move to a different universe.

Transcript -- In cosmology we believe that the universe started off in a big bang 13.7 billion years ago. All alternatives have been pretty much ruled out. Steady state theories, other alternatives have been ruled out. However, how will the universe end? We have several possibilities. One possibility is a big crunch when the universe squashes together in a gigantic ball of flame and maybe bangs once again. Another possibility is the big freeze, that the universe expands and just keeps on going and we're all going to freeze to death and we're all going to die when the universe reaches near absolute zero. Then there is something called the big rip where the universe goes into an exponential expansion and expands so rapidly that the distant galaxies can no longer be seen because they travel faster than the speed of light, that even the distant galaxies break the light barrier, and that's called the big rip, meaning that the night sky will be totally black except for some of the nearby stars.

Which of the three alternatives is the fate of the universe? Well, the short answer is we don't know. However, what we do know is that the universe is undergoing an exponential runaway expansion. The universe at the present time is careening out of control. Every astronomy textbook says that there was a big bang. The universe is expanding, but it's slowing down. It also says that the universe is mainly made out of atoms. Every textbook says that. The universe is made out of atoms. The universe is expanding, but slowing down. Both are wrong. We have to rewrite every single high school textbook on the planet earth. The universe is not mainly made out of atoms.

Four percent of the universe is made out of atoms, just four percent. 23% is made out of dark matter. 73%, which makes up most of the universe, is dark energy, and unfortunately, we are clueless as to what dark energy is and what dark matter is. In fact, if you ever find out what dark energy and dark matter is, be sure to tell me first.

Now why is that important? Because the amount of matter and energy in the universe determines the rate of expansion. We now know there is a lot more dark energy than we previously thought. Therefore, the universe is undergoing an inflationary exponential expansion. It is in a runaway mode, but here is the catch: we don't know how long that runaway mode is going to last. Some people say that it's temporary. We're in this huge expansion right now, exponential expansion, but it's going to reverse itself. Instead of a red shift, we'll have a blue shift as the universe collapses. At the present time we simply don't know. Why don't we know? Because we don't know what dark energy is. In fact, if you were to try to write down a theory of dark energy, your number would not correspond to the data by a mismatch of 10 to the 120. That is the largest mismatch in the history of science. There is no mismatch bigger than 10 to the 120. So this is a mystery. Until we solve the mystery of dark energy, we do not know the ultimate fate of the universe.

My personal thoughts are that perhaps we will continue with this exponential expansion and perhaps go into a big rip mode and at that point all intelligent life in the universe will die. All the tears and all the struggles and all the heartbreak of humanity since we rose from the swamp, it's all for nothing. Why should you bother to wake up tomorrow knowing that we're all going to die billions and billions of years from now when the universe turns to absolute zero, when the stars blink out, when we have nothing but neutron stars and black holes? What does it all mean anyway, if we're all going to die in a big rip?

Well, my personal attitude is that when the universe is about to die, why not leave the universe? Trillions of years from now, we will have the ability to bend space and time into a pretzel. We'll be able to tie space into knots. We'll be what is called a type three, maybe a type four civilization, a galactic civilization with the capability of harnessing galactic power. At that point, when the universe becomes so cold that all life is freezing to death, I say let us escape the universe, go into hyperspace and go to another universe.

Second Law of ThermodynamicsSecond Law of Thermodynamics
📺 Second Law of Thermodynamics
Randall Niles 📤 8 years ago 2009-10-09
Second Law of Thermodynamics - A clip from our friends at http://IllustraMedia.com - The Privileged Planet.

The Second Law of Thermodynamics is one of three Laws of Thermodynamics. The term "thermodynamics" comes from two root words: "thermo," meaning heat, and "dynamic," meaning power. Thus, the Laws of Thermodynamics are the Laws of "Heat Power." As far as we can tell, these Laws are absolute. All things in the observable universe are affected by and obey the Laws of Thermodynamics.

The First Law of Thermodynamics, commonly known as the Law of Conservation of Matter, states that matter/energy cannot be created nor can it be destroyed. The quantity of matter/energy remains the same. It can change from solid to liquid to gas to plasma and back again, but the total amount of matter/energy in the universe remains constant.

The Second Law of Thermodynamics is commonly known as the Law of Increased Entropy. While quantity remains the same (First Law), the quality of matter/energy deteriorates gradually over time. How so? Usable energy is inevitably used for productivity, growth and repair. In the process, usable energy is converted into unusable energy. Thus, usable energy is irretrievably lost in the form of unusable energy.

"Entropy" is defined as a measure of unusable energy within a closed or isolated system (the universe for example). As usable energy decreases and unusable energy increases, "entropy" increases. Entropy is also a gauge of randomness or chaos within a closed system. As usable energy is irretrievably lost, disorganization, randomness and chaos increase.

The implications of the Second Law of Thermodynamics are considerable. The universe is constantly losing usable energy and never gaining. We logically conclude the universe is not eternal. The universe had a finite beginning -- the moment at which it was at "zero entropy" (its most ordered possible state). Like a wind-up clock, the universe is winding down, as if at one point it was fully wound up and has been winding down ever since. The question is who wound up the clock?

The theological implications are obvious. NASA Astronomer Robert Jastrow commented on these implications when he said, "Theologians generally are delighted with the proof that the universe had a beginning, but astronomers are curiously upset. It turns out that the scientist behaves the way the rest of us do when our beliefs are in conflict with the evidence." (Robert Jastrow, God and the Astronomers, 1978, p. 16.)

Jastrow went on to say, "For the scientist who has lived by his faith in the power of reason, the story ends like a bad dream. He has scaled the mountains of ignorance; he is about to conquer the highest peak; as he pulls himself over the final rock, he is greeted by a band of theologians who have been sitting there for centuries." (God and the Astronomers, p. 116.) It seems the Cosmic Egg that was the birth of our universe logically requires a Cosmic Chicken...

There’s a concept that’s crucial to chemistry and physics. It helps explain why physical processes go one way and not the other: why ice melts, why cream spreads in coffee, why air leaks out of a punctured tire. It’s entropy, and it’s notoriously difficult to wrap our heads around. Jeff Phillips gives a crash course on entropy.

Thermal Equilibrium

A system is said to be in the state of thermodynamic or thermal equilibrium if the macroscopic variables describing the thermodynamic state of the system do not change with respect to time. For example, consider a gas inside a closed rigid container completely insulated from the outer surroundings, if the temperature, pressure, volume and the mass of the system remains constant, they do not change with time, such system is called is in the state of thermal equilibrium. A system is in the state of thermal equilibrium if it posses the following three types of the equilibrium.

(i) Mechanical equilibrium: There is no unbalanced force in its interior or between the system and the surroundings.

(ii) Thermal equilibrium: All parts of the system and the surroundings are at the same temperature.

(iii) Chemical equilibrium: The system does not undergo any spontaneous change in its internal structure due to chemical reactions such as diffusion, etc.

Life is chaos and the universe tends toward disorder. But why? If you think about it, there are only a few ways for things to be arranged in an organized manner, but there are nearly infinite other ways for those same things to be arranged. Simple rules of probability dictate that it's much more likely for stuff to be in one of the many disorganized states than in one of the few organized states. This tendency is so unavoidable that it's known as the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics. Obviously, disorder is a pretty big deal in the universe and that makes it a pretty big deal in chemistry - it's such a big deal that scientists have a special name for it: entropy. In chemistry, entropy is the measure of molecular randomness, or disorder. For the next thirteen minutes, Hank hopes you will embrace the chaos as he teaches you about entropy.

Chitra Thiyagarajan developed a device and technology that converts plastic waste into a fuel similar to diesel and LPG Gas. After a series of tests in a sustained three-year effort, Thiyagarajan finally perfected the device and applied for a patent

She call it as 'pyro-plant' , according her all plastics except PET bottles are put in a chamber and heated in the absence of oxygen over chromium micro band heaters to temperatures of between 350oC and 375oC. The gas generated passes into another chamber with a water coolant coils on two sides. It is then pumped into another compartment half-filled with water. The fuel floats on the surface. Non-soluble gas that passes into a condenser can be used as an LPG alternative.

Notice how the characters always try to find a sufficient equivalence with a third system somewhere. The idea, here, is that the language of the Universe is Thermodynamics and not Mathematics.

Abstract: Imagine two Equivalent, bored, individuals looking for something to do. Examples Include: Adam and Eve, Boris Badinov and Natasha Fatale, Rocky and Bullwinkle, any two Facebook "Friends" or "Groups" that are sufficiently equivalent in their ideas etc, etc.
The consequences (or the benefits) of their acts become what they are and they all become equivalent to each other, whether they succeed or not. With all living things or representations of living things, like here; Motivations also fall into the Principles of the Zeroth Law of Thermodynamics.

This is explained in detail in an article on my website entitled:
HTML'S MAGIC 'The Principles of The Zeroth Law of Thermodynamics', where I describe its inner workings, which are explained by using many different methods. In them, I attempt to show how Thermodynamics not only describes the flow of heat but also can 'Sufficiently' express the dynamics of everything else too. This cartoon is a fine way for me to explain the metaphysics of The Zeroth Law of Thermodynamics applies, even, to 'Motivations' while we can have a good laugh too.

The entropy of the universe is a measure of its disorder or chaos. If the laws of thermodynamics apply to the universe as a whole as they do to individual objects or systems within the universe, then the fate of the universe must be to increase in entropy. This is obvious in the case where the universe re-collapses in a big crunch because there all structures are erased in the heat death, but in the big chill it's is not as obvious. However, entropy of the universe continues to increase in the expansion when it continues forever. Black holes contain a hundred million times more entropy than a normal star of the same mass, so as matter goes into stellar remnants in black holes there's a huge increase in entropy. As normal matter decays into a sea of radiation, the unstructured radiation also has a large amount of entropy. For example, the microwave background contains much of the entropy of the universe currently. In an open universe the eventual increase in entropy over its life time is a factor of ten to the power twenty-three.

What sort of catastrophe would be required to entomb over 120 species of marine invertebrates in fined-grained rock?
This is not just a hypothetical question. In the Canadian Rockies, over 120 species of marine invertebrates have been found preserved in a famous formation known as The Burgess Shale. Most of these animals were soft bodied, and many are so exquisitely preserved that you can still see the food in their stomachs!
It appears they were buried and preserved almost instantaneously! Moreover, the creatures were apparently buried in turbulent conditions, because the fossils are found dumped at a variety of angles, relative to the bedding.
Fossil graveyards like these are found all over the world. Collectively, they point to catastrophic flooding occurring on a worldwide scale. This is exactly what we’d expect to find if the global flood recorded in the Bible actually occurred.

Did you know that animals have genetic switches? These are regulatory regions of DNA that control the genes. Scientists have noticed that dramatic things can happen when a genetic switch is mutated. For instance, a mutated genetic switch can dramatically alter the appearance of stickleback fish, or generate a great variety of coat colours in animals.

Veterinary researcher Dr Jean Lightner has suggested that God may have created genetic switches to facilitate variation, the switches having been created with a propensity to mutate without negatively affecting other traits. Modifications to genetic switches are not examples of ‘evolution in action’, even though they often are spoken of in that manner. Indeed, these changes don’t involve new information—new genes—arising, and evolutionists cannot explain the existence of the genetic switches in the first place!

The more we learn about the complexity of genomes, the more they point to a super-intelligent master programmer. To find out more from Creation Ministries International visit our website creation.com

In this video Paul Andersen explains how Le Chatelier's Principle can be used to predict the effect of disturbances to equilibrium. When a reversible reaction is at equilibrium disturbances (in concentration, temperature, pressure, etc.) will be offset to reach a new equilibrium. For examples when more reactants are added the reaction will move to the right to reestablish the equilibrium constant.

People with granite bench tops in their kitchens are usually very proud of them, never failing to show them off to visitors. But that's not surprising—serving up dinner on a surface that was supposedly millions of years in the making carries a certain aura about it.

But in a recent paper, published in the Proceedings of the Geologists' Association, granite specialist John Clemens stated, 'just about everything that was taught as recently as ten years ago about granitic magmatism has been turned on its head'.

He then described how granites can form quickly. He concluded that granites belong with an increasing number of geological processes that were, 'catastrophic in their suddenness'.

This eliminates yet another reason not to believe the Bible's timescale.

While this is certainly a dramatically different view of how granites form, be sensitive when telling your friends with granite bench tops, because they might find this research pretty deflating.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes is a recent Hollywood movie that depicts a fictitious world ruled by advanced apes. Through cutting-edge computer graphics, producers have created apes that possess many humanlike qualities.
One of the techniques they’ve used to make the apes more humanlike is quite simple.
One of the distinctive features of human eyes is our white sclera. Apes, however, do not have whites in their eyes—their sclera is brown or black. This might sound like a subtle difference, but if an artist depicts an ape with a white sclera, they look much more human.
Indeed, this technique has been used for years to indoctrinate the public with alleged evolutionary ancestors. Soft tissues, like eyeballs, don’t fossilize. So when an artist draws an alleged ape-man ancestor with whites in its eyes—that’s purely based on speculation! National Geographic magazine has been using this trick for years.
Who knows how many people have been fooled by it?

What's the connection between the Bible's history and spiny plant fossils buried deep in the fossil record? Well, from a biblical perspective, thorns arose after the first humans sinned, at the time called “the Fall”. Therefore, these plants with thorns must have lived—and been fossilised—after the Fall. However, according to conventional geology, these fossils are in so-called Devonian rocks, which are allegedly over 360 million years old.
Does this mean that the Bible’s history regarding thorns is wrong? No, the problem is that conventional geology ignores how the global flood of Noah profoundly affected earth’s sedimentary rock record. Such a cataclysm would have laid down vast sedimentary layers, including the ones deep in the fossil record containing thorns, after the Fall.
The fossil record, therefore, is not a record of evolutionary earth history, but is mostly the result of the biblical flood and its aftermath. Therefore, the Bible is correct when it tells us that thorns arose after the Fall.

📺 Equilibrium universe - The world's winding down

Equilibrium universe - The world
Don't you hate it when your coffee goes cold before you have time to drink it?
