Some ten billion years ago, the Milky Way merged with a large galaxy. The stars from this partner, named Gaia-Enceladus, make up most of the Milky Way’s halo and also shaped its thick disk, giving it its inflated form. A description of this mega-merger, discovered by an international team led by University of Groningen astronomer Amina Helmi, is now published in the scientific journal Nature. Large galaxies like our Milky Way are the result of mergers of smaller galaxies. An outstanding question is whether a galaxy like the Milky Way is the product of many small mergers or of a few large ones. The University of Groningen’s Professor of Astronomy, Amina Helmi, has spent most of her career looking for ‘fossils’ in our Milky Way which might offer some hints as to its evolution. She uses the chemical composition, the position and the trajectory of stars in the halo to deduce their history and thereby to identify the mergers which created the early Milky Way.

In was well know that there were wandering stars, they appeared in different nightly positions against their neighbours and they became known as planets. It took centuries, in fact it took millennia, for man to determine the true nature of these wandering stars and to evolve a model of the world to accommodate them and to predict their positions in the sky.

But is this true? In this presentation, we'll examine the Big Bang theory. We'll see that it not only lacks solid evidence, it also contradicts several important laws of science. Overall we'll see that the Big Bang is not a good scientific model. Instead, it has all the characteristics of a religious belief system for atheists -- one that is believed in spite of the evidence, because the alternative (Biblical Creation) implies accountability to a Creator. About the Speaker: Spike Psarris has a Bachelor's of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, and has done graduate work in Physics. Wisdom teeth: not evidence for human evolution

Some people have claimed that our third molars—commonly referred to as wisdom teeth—often cause trouble in modern humans because our mouths are smaller than our supposed evolutionary ancestors. However, impacted wisdom teeth don’t afflict all ethnic groups. Numerous people groups today have plenty of room in their jaws to accommodate their third molars. Modern dental research has shown that diet is a major factor in jaw development. In non-technological cultures, impacted wisdom teeth are almost unknown. Their tougher diet exercises their jaw muscles more, and this helps their jaws develop properly. The tougher diet also results in tooth wear, and the normal compensation for this wear involves the gradual migration of teeth towards the front of the mouth—thus creating more room for the third molars. However, the modern diet of soft, processed foods does not promote proper jaw development, which can lead to impacted wisdom teeth. So impacted wisdom teeth do not support evolutionary storytelling. Did you know that the germs in your intestines have sophisticated machines inside of them? Like all living things, E. coli bacteria contain DNA, which requires sophisticated machinery to read the DNA and turn the information into proteins, which are the major components of all living things. One of the key machines involved is the ribosome. According to the world’s leading science journal Nature: “The ribosome, together with its accessories, is probably the most sophisticated machine ever made. All of its components are active and moving, and it is environmentally friendly…” Ribosomes, however, are not just stunning examples of nanotechnology—they also seriously undermine the idea that life arose spontaneously. Life is not possible without ribosomes, so if a hypothetical first living cell arose spontaneously, this means ribosomes must have arisen spontaneously also. The Architect of Creation - God's Universe

Upon the return of Christ, there will be nothing between a child of God and exploring all of creation. The wonders that are seen in the universe are a testament to the limitless power of God. When observing the universe, and especially through a telescope, it becomes quite evident that we are in a universe that is both rich and inconceivably vast in terms of its wondrous expanse of heavenly bodies. Beyond our own Sun (which in itself is a G-class star), and beyond the outermost reaches of the Solar System; exists a seemingly endless number of stars, of varying colours and properties. Mankind's estimation of the known number of stars has been revised throughout the decades, but current day estimates put the order to be at 10^21, a number; that is likely to be revised and actually tripled to sextillion (10^23) due to a recent study carried out by Yale University in the United States. Around these stars exist what astronomers refer to as 'exoplanets' (planets outside our own Solar System.) Science has indeed proven the existence of other worlds, yet God's Word already stated such a fact long before Galileo peered through the first decent telescope. It is going to be a marvellous journey when the children of God are able to go from one star to the next. The best journey however, will be at the side of God. The Millennial Reign in Heaven will undoubtedly also herald its own wonders, but creation in its entirety gives glory unto God, Who so rightfully deserves it. Our planet is but a speck of dust orbiting a pinprick of light in a non-central part of our own galaxy. We are insignificant in so many ways, yet God died for our sin and makes us significant, and lifts us up to be His very children. To put it simply, eternity will not be long enough to marvel in awe at such a Truth! Our greatest discoveries in this world will pale with respect to what is to come.

Boulders moved over 500km!

What sort of geological event could transport large boulders over 500 km? This confronts geologists when they study the plateaus of north-western USA and western Canada. Throughout these regions there are many hard, quartzite boulders. However, the nearest source of quartzite rocks is at least 500 km away. Some have suggested an ancient river might have carried the boulders, but calculations suggest the water would need to have been over 60 metres deep and travelling faster than 100 km per hour. This suggests a geological catastrophe far exceeding a local flash flood. So how did the boulders get there? The Bible provides a compelling answer. During the recessive stage of the flood, tremendous currents would have scoured the continents, transporting many boulders vast distances. This also explains why many of these boulders have marks testifying to violent collisions during transportation. Thus the Bible provides the answer to a geological mystery.
